Life is slowly starting to return to some kind of normality at last (just in time for the summer holidays!). One thing Matt and me had been promising Savannah all through lockdown was that as soon as we could, we would take her on a boat ride.
At the end of summer last year Matt and me randomly ended up hiring a boat for a mini pub crawl, something we knew Savannah would really enjoy doing too (well bar the pub crawl bit). It’s been nearly a year but Savannah never forgot our promise that we would do it.
After being stuck in for months with naff all to do but go for walks I was really looking forward to this day out. Savannah loved that she was able to steer the boat and feed the passing ducks. It was also lovely to be out in the fresh air surrounded by water.
Matt and me also hired a canoe recently for a couple of hours for our anniversary. We stopped along the way too, mooring up for a picnic.
It was much windier when we went out in the canoe but were advised it was safe to still go ahead and I’m so glad we did as it was such good fun. Overall the wind wasn’t even much of a problem, the only time we ran into trouble was on the open water and it was still manageable. It was actually quite comical trying to row against the wind.
I have totally fallen in love with being on the water and boating is definitely something we will do regularly. Next we all want to try kayaking. We also want to hire a boat along the broads and spend the day there. The Norfolk Broads are just stunning, if you haven’t visited before I strongly recommend that you do!
Both of the boat rentals we used are based on Thorpe River Green next to The Rushcutters Arms on Yarmouth Road. You can choose to either go into the city and explore Norwich from a whole new perspective or sail through the countryside. Both are worth exploring but I would definitely recommend the Norwich route first. I just love the city!
